Best Interests

Written by Jack Thorne for BBC1/Endeavor
Directed by Michael Keillor
Starring Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen
With Alison Oliver and Niamh Moriarty

BEST INTERESTS is a 4-part story of a child, a marriage, and an impossible decision. Nicci and Andrew are parents whose lives have been made challenging but beautiful by their daughter Marnie’s life-limiting condition. However, when Marnie’s doctors decide that withdrawal of care is in her best interests, Nicci and Andrew are faced with a choice no parent wants to make, one that threatens their marriage. BEST INTERESTS is about a family being driven apart, and it’s about the media, the political establishment, the legal system. It's a drama that represents the shades of grey on all sides, the ‘messy middle’, but above all it’s a portrait of a family, and an exploration of how love survives. BEST INTERESTS has been nominated for Limited Series and Leading Actress for Sharon Horgan at the BAFTA TV Awards.

An adaptation of the internationally acclaimed novel, BOY SWALLOWS UNIVERSE is an epic 8 x 1 hour coming of age story blending the magic of youth with the reality of the adult world. Eli Bell's prescient brother is intentionally mute, his dad’s a drunken philosopher, his beloved mum is headed for jail, his step-dad deals heroin, and his only friend his own age is the psychopathic schoolyard bully... There’s a lot of love between these misfits but their hometown is consumed by drug lords competing for control over the lucrative heroin trade in the Brisbane suburbs. It’s a fantastical ride, as cars fly through the sky, disembodied limbs go missing, machete-armed gangs fight in the streets... and Eli falls in love.

Development

We develop a range of film and television projects. Upcoming highlights on the television side include DRAGON SLAYERS, a six-part limited series by Peter Bowker about the Insight investigative journalism team at The Sunday Times under the editorship of Harry Evans. This will be a co-production with DMC, with Michael Fassbender and Conor McCaughan Executive Producing alongside us; and on the film side, a feature adaptation of the inspiring, heart-felt non-fiction book BREADSONG, about a teenage girl’s story of overcoming her battle with depression, with her father by her side, and through their unexpected discovery of baking together.
